Real talk before you step in front of the camera.
Let’s be honest—having your photo taken can feel a little awkward. Add the pressure of needing that photo for your career or online presence, and it’s totally normal to feel a little stressed.
But here’s the good news: your headshot session doesn’t have to be intimidating. As your photographer, I’ve got your back—and I want to make sure you feel confident, prepared, and totally at ease.
Here are a few things I wish every client knew before stepping in front of my lens.
1. This session matters to me just as much as it does to you.
I know your headshots aren’t just for fun. You’re using them to level up—whether that’s landing a new job, launching your brand, or putting your best foot forward online. That’s a big deal.
But guess what? It’s a big deal to me too. This is what I do every day, and I care deeply about helping you walk away with images you’re proud to share. Your win is my win.
2. You don’t have to figure out your outfit alone.
Not sure what to wear for your headshots? Don’t stress—I’m here to help. Part of hiring a professional headshot photographer means tapping into my experience. I’ve seen what works on camera (and what doesn’t), and I’m more than happy to give you tips on colors, styles, and what photographs best.
Got outfit options? Bring them! We’ll go through them together and find the perfect look that feels like you.
3. You don’t need to practice in the mirror for hours.
Seriously. You don’t have to come to your session with model-level posing skills. That’s my job.
I’ll guide you through everything—how to stand, where to look, how to relax your shoulders, what to do with your hands (yep, we’ll tackle that too). You can show up exactly as you are, and we’ll take it from there.
4. Trust me with the weird pose ideas and locations.
Sometimes I’ll suggest a spot or a pose that feels a little… strange. Maybe it’s turning your body slightly away from the camera, sitting on a random bench, or leaning on a wall in just the right light.
I promise there’s a method behind the madness. I’ve spent years studying what works and refining my process to help people look their best—especially in professional headshots. If something feels a little awkward in the moment, it usually looks amazing on camera.
5. I love hearing what you think after the shoot.
Your feedback means the world to me. Whether it’s a quick “I love these!” email or a shoutout on Instagram, knowing you’re happy with your photos is the best part of my job.
Also—if you tell a friend, co-worker, or cousin who’s looking for a photographer, that word-of-mouth love helps keep my business going. And I’m so grateful for it.
6. This job is way more than just clicking a button.
I get it—everyone’s got a decent phone camera these days. But there’s a big difference between snapping a pic and creating a polished, professional headshot.
When you hire me, you’re getting lighting expertise, creative direction, high-end gear, and hours of behind-the-scenes editing that go into making you look your best. My goal isn’t just to take a photo—it’s to create an image that captures your personality, professionalism, and presence.
🎯 Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, your headshot session should feel relaxed, collaborative, and even (gasp) fun. The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will be. And if you ever have questions along the way—from what to wear to what to expect—I’m just a message away.
So breathe easy. We’ve got this.
